Geothermal combined heat and power plant design

Problem
Add electricity generation to a 240 °C geothermal heat-only plant while keeping its 50 MW district-heating supply.
My contribution
Designed the heat-only plant, the Rankine cycle and its heat exchangers in MATLAB, with a payback estimate for the power equipment.
Result
Base design: 7.2 MW of electricity from the cycle alongside 50 MW of district heating.

Hydrogen reduction of iron oxide for iron-fuel cycles

Problem
How quickly can hydrogen turn iron oxide back into iron fuel, and what limits the rate?
My contribution
Built and verified a three-front shrinking-core particle model in MATLAB, plus an interactive viewer of simulation results.
Result
Reaction-controlled model: 90% oxygen removal in 11.8 min for a 100 µm particle at 800 °C in pure H₂ at 1 atm.
Four days of simulated price, charge and temperature

Thermally constrained home battery controller

Problem
Charge and discharge a home battery on hourly prices without breaching its capacity, power or thermal limits.
My contribution
Implemented the battery model, controller, thermal protection and most of their tests in a two-person team.
Result
In a 1,343-hour simulation, thermal derating kept the battery at or below its 50 °C limit.

Electricity Price and Renewable Energy Stock Returns

Problem
Is wholesale electricity-price volatility associated with the share returns of European renewable generators?
My contribution
Built a European price proxy, a GARCH volatility model and panel regressions in Python.
Result
Unexpected price shocks showed no significant association; expected volatility was significant only after the 2021–22 energy crisis.

Experience

  1. Jul – Sep 2026
    R&D InternAllseas Nuclear, Delft

Evaluated open-source CFD solvers for helium flow and heat transfer in high-temperature gas-cooled reactor geometries; built and verified an OpenFOAM porous-medium core model and presented recommendations to the engineering team.

  2. Feb 2022 – Jul 2025
    Software DeveloperScott Logic, United Kingdom

Developed and tested Java Spring Boot applications for banking, public-sector and internal R&D projects in multidisciplinary teams. Presented progress to clients, ran knowledge-sharing seminars and mentored new graduates.
